Surgery

Advancements in veterinary care have helped make surgical procedures far safer than ever before. At Antrim Veterinary Hospital, we strive to ensure your pet’s surgical procedure is as safe, comfortable and stress free as possible. We are proud of the quality of surgical care we provide which includes advanced monitoring equipment and anesthetic protocols tailored to your pet’s individual needs. We also believe that pain management is an important aspect of our surgical protocols and is an important part of your pet’s recovery.

Throughout the entire anesthetic procedure, your pet is constantly monitored by a trained technician as well as with state of the art electronic monitoring devices that measure the heart rate and rhythm (ECG), blood oxygenation, CO2 level, core body temperature and blood pressure. All patients have an IV catheter placed and warm IV fluids are administered to help maintain blood pressure and hydration. Patients are also placed on warming blankets to help maintain normal body temperature throughout the procedure. Your pet will also be monitored throughout the recovery period.

Beyond spay and neuter surgeries, Antrim Veterinary Hospital performs an array of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. Soft tissue surgeries include, but are not limited to, tumor removal, eye surgery, abdominal surgery, hernia repair.  Orthopedic procedures include cruciate ligament repair, intramedullary pinning, bone plating, external fixation, femoral head osteotomy and treatments such as fracture repair by casts or splints.
